Replying to Sunil Kumar V, the minister said that till now the government has deported 53 migrants. There are 748 legal Bangladesh migrants in the state and 283 illegal ones residing in Dakshina Kannada, Mandya, Kolar, Ramanagaram, Mysuru, Chikkamagaluru, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban and Shivamogga districts.

They are also found to be involved in petty crimes. As many as 53 cases against them are before various courts and eight under investigation, he said.

Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar said there are thousands of illegal migrants from Bangladesh in Bengaluru alone. They should be verified as they are involved in destructive activities, he added.

Sunil Kumar expressed concern over illegal migrants getting their names enrolled in voters' list and also getting ration cards. K G Bopaiah said illegal Bangladesh migrants claim that they are from Assam.

They are spread across the state and their number could be in lakhs. The government should collect information from coffee plantations and act against such migrants without succumbing to any pressure.
