Coastaldigest.com had published a report on Monday's incident, wherein a group of Bajrang Dal activists went to a lodge after learning that a boy and girl were meeting there. Even though both the boy and girl belonged to Hindu religion and were close relatives, the vigilantes mistook the boy for a Muslim.
The Konaje police, who were tipped-off, went to the lodge and managed to send the group away.
The police found that the boy was studying for B. Pharm in a college in Deralakatte and was staying at the lodge. The girl, an MBA graduate, had come to meet him after attending an interview in Manipal.
It is learnt that the parents of the two knew that the couple were meeting each other. No case has been registered in Konaje station. “I have sought a detailed report from the police inspector,” said Mr Chandra Sekhar.
