Mangalore, Mar 26: Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader has expressed shock over what he called the baseless allegations ' made against him by opposition parties and a section of media amidst the ongoing campaign for Lok Sabha polls.

UTKhader
The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party has accused Mr Khader of misusing his power to divert a Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) site from a temple to a charitable trust run by his brother.

Malavika Avinash, one of the 35 star campaigners of BJP in the state in a press meet here on Tuesday alleged that a BDA site that had been allotted to Kukke Subrahmanya temple Trust, had been taken over by a charitable trust in the name of U T Naseema Fareed. The land which was allotted to the temple trust to construct an information centre was transferred to U T Naseema Fareed Memorial Trust without any reason, she alleged adding that a probe should be conducted to find out the role of Mr Khader in this issue.

Responding to the allegations, Mr Khader said that he is ready to face any inquiry. He said that such false allegations are deliberately made against him by vested interests to tarnish his image ahead of Lok Sabha polls.

He clarified that he has no connection with the charitable trust run by his brother in Bangalore. He also said that he was not even a minister when the site was allotted to the trust as per procedure last year.

Rubbishing the allegation of scandal, he said that the charitable trust had applied for a site following a notification appeared in a newspaper seeking applications for the BDA site allotment. The BDA received seven applications one from including Kukke Subrahmanya Temple Trust. However, it was decided in the BDA governing committee meeting to allot the land to UT Nasima Fareed Memorable Charitable Trust as it was meant for benefit of differently-abled persons. The Temple had applied for the site for the establishment of an information centre. However the notification had clearly mentioned that the site will be for the purpose of differently-abled persons, he said adding that he did not play any role in the allotment.

Mr Khader, however, said that if it is proved that the land truly belonged to the temple trust, his brother either should immediately take steps to handover the land or cut relationship with him.

The minister also questioned why he should acquire the land belonging to a temple while he has handed over his own ancestral land to a Hindu religious centre near Vittla.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
