Tigers would suddenly appear and scare the daylights out of the people for one or two days and disappear in the past. But this time, they are just refusing to go back to the forests, much to the fright of the residents in the villages and in the verdant coffee estates.
A traveller sighted the tiger in the coffee plantation while going to Mullayyanagiri from Chikmagalur on Saturday. He posted pictures and videos in a social network site, attracting the attention of many people.
As the news of a tiger moving around the place spread, hundreds of people from distant places started thronging the place to try their luck and capture it in their cameras.
“Since then, many people are visiting the place looking for the tiger. In fact, they are disturbing the wild animal,” said M.S. Manik, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Chikmagalur.
Many people had sighted the tiger. Appu, resident of Pandarahalli, had informed the Forest Department officers that he had spotted the tiger while he was on his way to his village from Chikmagalur on his two-wheeler on Tuesday. G. Veeresh, an environmentalist, has captured the tiger in his camera.
“One side of the road connecting Chikmagalur with Pandarahalli is the reserve forest area and on the other side is the coffee plantation. As it is close to the grassland, the tiger expects to get herbivores. It takes rest in the plantation.
So far, it has not harmed anybody. I wish, local people do not disturb it,” the officer said.
