Mangalore, Mar 27: Following an open panel discussion between representatives of different political parties such as BJP, Congress, CPI(M) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at Nehru Maidan on Thursday, a clash erupted between supporters of two parties over difference of opinion on a question pertaining to the arrest of RSS chief Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat.
The clash subsided as the police intervened and dispersed the crowd of supporters.
Congress leader Ramanath Rai, BJP leader Capt Ganesh Karnik, CPI(M) Lok Sabha candidate Yadav Shetty and AAP candidate M R Vasudeva participated in the live panel discussion organised by a Kannada news channel at Nehru Maidan on Thursday.
Towards the end of the programme, as the floor was thrown open for interaction between the political leaders and the audience, few members of the audience began asking political-related queries to the panel members.
One among the audience, purported to be an SDPI supporter, directed a question to Ramanath Rai, inquiring why the administration had failed to arrest Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat despite several charges against him.
Offended by this, activists reportedly belonging to Bajrang Dal, began jeering and shouting slogans following which members from the Congress members intervened. Arguments broke out among the two groups, which quickly escalated to a clash among them.
Few chairs were hurled during the clash, despite the presence of video cameras belonging to television channels.
However, no person was hurt in the clash and the police quickly brought the situation under control by dispersing the crowd.
