Mangaluru, Jul 4: The Muslims in coastal Karnataka will complete their 30 days of Ramadan fasting on Tuesday and celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday, July 6.

The beginning and end of this lunar month are calculated based on the sighting of the new moon that varies between 29 or 30 days.
Witnessing the crescent will thus confirm the start of the month of Shawwal, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan which will be celebrated as Eid-ul-Fitr.
The moon-sighting committees in three districts, along with the rest of the population, had kept an eye out for the crescent moon after Maghreb prayers on Monday evening. However, the crescent was absent.
Hence, the Khazis of Mangaluru, Udupi, Ullal and Bhatkal, after consultations with the committee members, declared that Tuesday will be the 30th day of Ramadan and the festival of breaking of the fast will be celebrated on Wednesday.
