Udupi, Jun 3 Congress leader and MLC Ivan D’Souza has alleged that both the BJP and JD(S) were giving inducements to teachers, who are the voters of the South West Teachers’ Constituency for the Legislative Council elections.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. D’Souza said that he would lodge a complaint with the Election Commission on this issue as it was against the Model Code of Conduct. “While the BJP was giving gifts such as bags to the teachers, the JD(S) was giving sumptuous meals (Baad Oota) to them. This was wrong,” he said.

Mr. D’Souza said that the Congress had lost both seats to the Legislative Council by a small margin last time. It was prepared for the polls this time. The Congress candidate for the South West Graduates’ Constituency was Dinesh S.P., while its candidate for the South West Teachers’ Constituency was K.K. Manjunath.

Though the BJP had won both these successively, it had done little to address the concerns either of the teachers or the graduates. The Narendra Modi government had said that it would create two crore jobs in a year, but so far, in the last four years, it had created 3.5 lakh jobs. The Siddaramaiah government, however, had created 4.5 lakh jobs. It had also improved the lot of teachers, Mr. D’Souza said.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
