Speaking to media persons in the city, Rai, who is also district in charge minister of Dakshina Kannada, said that Jaleel was victim of a larger conspiracy by anti-social elements to disrupt peace in the coastal district.

He also congratulated the police for solving the case in spite of multiple attempts by miscreants to divert the direction of the case.

On April 20, a gang four miscreants had barged into the office of Karopadi Gram Panchayat in Bantwal taluk and brutally murdered 40-year-old Abdul Jaleel, who was the vice president of the same GP. Police managed to arrest 11 accused in connection with the case last week.

Karthik Raj case

Rai also recalled how BJP leaders and saffron outfits made apparent attempts to give communal hue to the murder of Karthik Raj with the intention of distorting the tranquil in the society.

“Former chief minister Yeddyurappa had claimed that Karthik Raj’s murder was politically motivated while Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had threatened to arson his own constituency and created a sense of fear and confusion amongst many,” he recalled.

Asked about Mangaluru Chalo being organised by a few Muslim groups in protest against alleged police atrocity on Ahmed Qureshi, an accused in an attempt to murder case, Mr Rai said: “CID is already enquiring the case and action will be taken based on its report. Qureshi should be given justice. At the same to Prakash Poojary and Sudarshan who were allegedly attacked by Qureshi also need justice,” he said.

Condemning BJP leader Ananth Kumar's statement about Congress lacking leadership in the district, Rai said, “Ananth Kumar needs to remember that Congress has dominated in 7 out of 8 assembly constituencies and this district has two ministers in the state. We have active youth leaders who can strengthen the party. Even in the MCC congress is ruling”.

Mangaluru Mayor Kavitha Sanil, local Congress leaders Ibrahim Kodichal and Shashidhar Hegde were present.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
