Mangaluru, Sep 12: Lashing out at Bharatiya Janata Party for continuously intruding into personal food choices, Congress leader Janardhana Poojary on Saturday dared the BJP government to ban export of meat and beef from India.
The former union ministers statement comes in the wake of attempts made by certain BJP ruled states in India to impose temporary ban the sale of meat in view of the Jain festival of Paryushan.
“Why this party is trying to dictate its terms on the culinary preferences of an individual through its governments,” asked Mr Poojary while reminding that India is the largest exporter of beef in the world.
Dubbing the ban as BJP’s attempt to Jain appeasement for the sake of vote bank, the Congress leader said that Jain community, which is considered as peace loving community, never sought ban on sale of the meat.
“BJP ruled state governments are trying to create gap between different communities through such policies,” he added.
