JD(S) fields B M Farookh for June 8 council polls

Bengaluru, May 30: Business magnet and Janata Dal (Secular) chief general secretary B M Farookh, whose was defeated in two Rajya Sabha polls, this time is likely to enter the Karnataka Legislative Council.

The H D Deve Gowda-led party has fielded him for the biennial Legislative Council polls. The elections for 11 seats of the Council are scheduled for June 8. The last date to file nominations is May 31. 

MLAs are the voters in the elections. Being the single largest party in the Assembly BJP can win 5 seats in the council, where as Congress and JD(S) with 78 and 37 seats can win 4 and 2 seats respectively. 

If sources are to be believed, Farookh will be inducted to the new Cabinet led by chief minister H D Kumaraswamy.

Among the MLC candidates BM Farookh is the richest with total assets of over Rs 778 crores.

His movable assets are worth Rs 87.27 crore; his immovable assets are valued at Rs 591.3 crore. He has declared that his wife's movable assets are worth Rs 9.11 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 91.23 crore.

Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) and Master of Business Administration degrees. He is the CMO of Fiza Developers and Infrastructure Pvt Ltd.

Farookh possess automobiles including cars, aircrafts, yachts and ships. While he owns jewellery/bullion worth Rs 1.64 crore; his wife owns jewellery/bullion worth Rs 2.12 crore. He has declared other assets worth Rs 2.57 crore. His liabilities stand at Rs 121.46 crore.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
