Puttur, Oct 9: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah has reiterated his promise of splitting Puttur taluk into to two and providing taluk status to Kadaba.
He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the new college of Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University at Koila, here on Sunday.
The CM said that Kadaba is among the 43 places in queue for taluk status, as per the recommendations of the Hundekar, Gaddigowda and Prakash committees.
Kadab town is located 82 k.m. towards East from Mangaluru, the Dakshina Kannada district headquarters and 31 k.m. from Puttur town.
In 2013, ruling BJP government under chief minister Yediyurappa declared Kadaba as Taluk along with Moodbidri, Byndoor and Brahmavar. However, till date taluk formation is not done in spite of the change of the government.
First Grade College
The CM said that the Animal Husbandry Department has given the Veterinary Department 247 acres of its 895 acres and Rs 110 crore will be released for the first phase work.
A veterinary hospital, hostels and farm will also come up on campus. The project hopes to improve animal resource in the state, he said.
The Veterinary Department needs additional 692 veterinary doctors and 300 assistant directors. Steps are being taken to fill the vacancies and 650 veterinary doctors are already appointed, he said.
Mr Siddaramaiah said that his government will sanction a govt first grade college in the next state budget.
Animal Husbandry and Sericulture Minister A Manju said that 60 seats at the Veterinary Sciences University will be reserved for students of the college to be built in Koila.
“The Koila Veterinary College will be developed as a breeding centre of cattle, along with preservation of local varieties of cattle such as Malenadu Gidda. Also, Rs 500 crore is reserved in the state budget for the same,” he said.
