Kanachur Hospital to inaugurate advanced facilities, organize free medical camp

Mangaluru, Feb 19: The newly-established Kanachur Hospital and Research Centre, run by Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) at Deralakatte on the outskirts of Mangaluru will organise a free medical camp along with inauguration of various advanced facilities at its premises on Sunday.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Thursday, chairman of the institute U Kanachur Monu said that the new hospital would consist of a spacious out-patient department block, state-of-the-art emergency and trauma care centre, operation theatres, intensive care units (ICUs), neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), central laboratory and facilities such as X-ray, ultrasound scanning, blood bank and others.

The new Out-Patient Department (OPD) block will be inaugurated by state forest and district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai. The new casualty block will be inaugurated by chairman of Azeezia Medical College, Kollam Haji Abdul Azeez. The new radiology block with advanced equipment will be inaugurated by Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel. Minister for sports and youth services Abhayachandra Jain will inaugurate the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), while Dr Mohammed Ismail will inaugurate the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) during the occasion.

Chairman of SCDCC Bank M N Rajendra Kumar will inaugurate the central laboratory at the hospital while managing director of Karnataka Bank Jayaram Bhat will inaugurate the integrated blood bank, he said.

The total cost incurred for the establishment of the hospital was Rs 200 crore, he added.

Free medical camp for patients

Dean of the institute Dr Khaja Naseeruddin said that a free medical camp had been arranged on Sunday for the benefit of people, which would be inaugurated by state health minister U T Khader.

In the same programme, Mr Khader will launch the Kanachur Arogya medical card which will help the card holders in availing healthcare facilities at the Kanachur Hospital, he said.

MLC Ivan D’Souza, Mangaluru North MLA Moideen Bava, Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, Puttur MLA Shakunthala Shetty, Sathish Kumpala, N S Kareem, Shekhar Kaneerthota and others will be the guests of honour at the programme, said Mr Monu.

He said that the main block of the hospital had been readied with 350 beds while super-specialty blocks were being readied. All beds will be given to patients free of cost, he informed, adding that the medical institute was also ready for commencement from the next academic year.

Vice-chairman of Kanachur Hospital Advisory Board Dr Arunachalam Kumar and Dr Devi Prasad were present.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.

Melkar, Dec 17: The 17th Annual Day and Graduation Ceremony of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, themed “Fusion-2K25,” was celebrated with dignity and enthusiasm, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic journey. The programme reflected the college’s steadfast commitment to academic excellence, character building, and the holistic development of students.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Asif Mohammed, whose presence greatly enriched the occasion. The celebration was further graced by the chief guests Mr. P. B. Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.
