Mysuru, Aug 6: Former chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party’s Karnataka president B S Yeddyurappa has exhorted his party workers to prepare the ground work for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by enthusiastically campaigning in the looming urban local body polls in the state.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Yedddyurappa said that the workers gave been told to concentrate on wooing the OBCs, SC/STs and other minorities and to strengthen the party from the grassroots so as to win both the local body elections as also the Lok Sabha polls.
He said this was an opportunity for the BJP to show its strength and the party should easily win 20 to 23 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. “This should be our contribution to the BJP’s national kitty in the 2019 Parliamentary elections,” he said, and announced that he would go on a State-wide tour, covering 15 to 16 districts, from August 9.
The workers were asked to highlight the achievements of the NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and were apprised of who the Centre had released funds for various infrastructure development works.
Mr Yeddyurappa also lashed out at the State government saying there was no single noteworthy achievement so far and even the loan waiver for farmers was shrouded in confusion. He later participated in the Basava Jayanti celebrations at Suttur Mutt.
