Mangaluru, Jan 10: BJP leader R Ashoka has accused Siddaramiah led Karnataka government of showing soft corner towards terrorists and interfering with police department.

Addressing media persons in the city on Saturday, the former deputy chief minister said that Congress is trying to protect the criminals to appease people belonging to a few particular communities.

œMehdi Masroor Biswas, the Bengaluru-based ITC executive who allegedly ran the pro-ISIS Twitter handle @ShamiWitness, was arrested by the police long ago. By this time police should have arrested many of his followers. However no action has been taken to trace his followers, said Mr Ashoka, who during his tenure as home minister had leveled false terror allegations against Muslim youths including a journalist and a scientist arrested by police in 2012. The youth were later exonerated by court and released.

Comparing the incumbent State government to Tughlaq rule, Mr Ashoka said that the law and order situation in the State was completely collapsed thanks to appeasement policy of the Congress.

He also held State government responsible for rampant drug mafia in the coastal district and recalled that a BJP leader was murdered by drug peddlers very recently at Soorinje village of Mangaluru Taluk.

Mr Ashoka revealed that as many as 18 lakh people in Karnataka have been enrolled to the BJP as part of nationwide membership drive. As far as the numbers of new members is concerned Karnataka is in the seventh position in the State. But, within next 10 days it will jump to second position as membership will increase to 23 lakh, he said.
