Mangaluru, Aug 4: The Karnataka government will take all necessary steps to help the stranded Kannadigas in Saudi Arabia once the union government provides the list of such expats, said R Roshan Baig, minister for urban development and Haj.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a programme at Mangaluru International Airport, the minister said that currently the State government has no information on the exact number of Kannadigas stranded in the kingdom.
“Once we get the list, the government will go all out to either bring them back or work towards their rehabilitation,” he said, adding that he was in touch with the Union Ministers of State for External Affairs M J Akbar and V K Singh.
Asserting he is thankful and grateful to all the autho rities including the MEA for responding to the state's requests about Kannadigas there, Baig asserted the state government is committed to their welfare.
“I have also spoken to Ahmed Javed, former Mumbai's top cop who is now India's ambassador to Saudi Arabia in this regard,” he added.
