Bengaluru, May 5: Issuing a stern warning to fake gau rakshaks, the Karnataka government has said that strict action would be taken against those who try to disrupt social harmony in the name of cow protection.

The government denied reports in a section of the media that it defended before the Supreme Court its law granting protection to gau rakshaks.
“The Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 1964, does not give any protection to any vigilante groups who take law into their hands,” the government said in an official release.
“Our government in Karnataka has never supported any kind of vigilantism. Misrepresentation of facts by certain media houses is unfortunate. Laws here are backed by a strong enforcement mechanism. Strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt social harmony in Karnataka,” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah tweeted.
