Bengaluru, Aug 27: The Karnataka government will build homes for those who lost their Houses in devastating floods and landslips in Kodagu district using latest prefabricated technology, Minister for Housing and Urban Development U T Khader said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters here, he said the government had already finalised various schemes for the displaced in the Coffee district and building these modern dwellings will be taken up by the Housing department. The department was already preparing a blue print on how to implement this scheme at the earliest.

According to reports 1120 houses were damaged in the recent floods and landslips and out of them 186 had completely destroyed.

These prefabricated houses will come in different shapes and sizes as per the needs of the local people and that suits the weather pattern in this district nestled in Western Ghats, he added.

He said the government was planning to bring a separate policy for regulating dwelling structures in hilly districts after landslips had wrecked havoc in Kodagu.

Mr Khader said the state government had written a letter to Union Civil Aviation Ministry to regulate air service providers who had increased the fares between Bengaluru and Mangaluru following damages to the roads connecting the two cities in the recent natural calamity in Kodagu.
