Bengaluru, Oct 29: The High Court of Karnataka has finally permitted organising Kambala, a slush track buffalo race, in Udupi district as per the safety norms imposed in the State government's December 17, 2015 notification.

On Friday Justice A.S. Bopanna passed the interim order while staying the October 20, 2016 endorsement given by the Deputy Commissioner, Udupi district, rejecting the representation of the Udupi District Kambala Committee, which had sought permission for holding annual Kambala events at various locations in the district.
The court passed the interim order while taking note of a direction issued in March this year by a Division Bench, which had said that Kambala could be organised only on terms with the safety norms in the notification issued by the Department of Animal Husbandry on December 17 last year.
