Karnataka woman who had married a Pakistani arrested on charge of illegal stay

Bengaluru, Jun 24: A woman, who had obtained a Pakistani citizenship after marrying a Pakistani man, was arrested by the police on charge of overstaying in Bengaluru and also obtaining various IDs meant for Indian residents.

Based on a tip-off, Siddapura inspector Krishnamurthy conducted a probe and arrested her on Friday, charging her under various sections of Foreigners Act, 1946.

According to the police, the accused, Shabana Nasira, 50, was residing in Siddapura since 2010. The police said Shabana was an Indian citizen, born and brought up in Bengaluru.

She married Pakistani national Noor Mohammed, in 1987, and went to Pakistan to live with him in Faisalabad. However, in February 2010, they divorced and she returned to India on a tourist visa. She had applied for a visa extension and Indian citizenship, which is pending before the authorities.

Shabana also managed to get an Aadhaar card, PAN card, voters ID, ration card, and gas connection in the name of Nasira. She had even availed a pension certificate for senior citizens and applied for the same.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

• Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

• Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

• Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
