Kasaragod mourns Cherkalam Abdulla’s demise

Kasaragod, Jul 27: People from all walks of life, including religious and political leaders, paid tributes to Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader Cherkalam Abdulla who died at his residence at Cherkala here on Friday morning.

In his message, Minister-in-Charge of the district E. Chandrasekharan termed “invaluable” the contributions of Mr. Abdulla to his home district during his stint as legislator and Minister. Mr. Chandrasekharan also conveyed his condolence to Mr. Abdulla’s family members.

Sunni spiritual leader Kanthapuram A.P. Abubacker Musliyar, who visited Cherkala to pray for the departed soul of the IUML leader, said Mr. Abdulla showered spirit of love and compassion all through his life and strived to maintain cordial relations with his political rivals despite ideological differences.

Among those who paid tributes to Mr. Abdulla included Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, who reached the late leader’s residence in the evening. BJP district president K. Sreekanth described Mr. Abdulla as a man of firm convictions and lauded him for adopting a resolute stance on issues concerning the masses.

Mr. Abdulla, as an office-bearer of the Samyuktha Jamaat committee, was in the forefront in addressing issues faced by the Muslim community, Mr. Sreekanth said, condoling the death of the IUML leader.

Meanwhile, the district administration declared holiday on Friday for educational institutions, including professional colleges, in Kasaragod and Manjeswaram taluks as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
