Kasaragod: NIA files supplementary charge sheet against youth in suspected ISIS/Daesh case

Kasaragod, Mar 16: In connection with the case of disappearance of over a dozen people from Kasaragod (who are suspected to have joined terror groups abroad), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday filed supplementary charge sheet against Nashidul Hamzafar who is accused of hatching a conspiracy along with others with the intention of joining and furthering the objective of proscribed terrorist organization.

NIA filed the supplementary charge sheet before the Special NIA court in Ernakulam, Kerala, against the 26-year-old accused who is a native of Kalpetta, Wayanad district, Kerala under relevant sections of IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The case is related to a criminal conspiracy hatched since 2015. Following the conspiracy, 14 suspects from Kasaragod district left India or their workplaces in the Middle East, Asia between mid-May and early-July in 2016, before travelling to Afghanistan and Syria where they allegedly joined the ISIS/Daesh, according to NIA.

On September 18, 2018, NIA arrested Hamzafar after he was deported to Delhi from Kabul, Afghanistan, where he was arrested by Afghan security agencies in October 2017 for illegally entering the country and attempting to physically join his co-conspirators in ISIS/ Daesh. Hamzafar had left India on October 3, 2017, and travelled to Muscat in Oman before travelling to Iran and further reaching Kabul in Afghanistan.

Hamzafar had allegedly maintained contact with the other absconding accused persons like the prime conspirator Abdul Rashid Abdulla and Ashfak Majeed who were known to him through his college friends.

Mangaluru’s public transport revolution: 100 new govt electric buses to end private ‘trip-cutting’

Mangaluru: Public transport in Mangaluru is set for a state-led transformation as the government moves to deploy 100 new electric govt buses to replace unreliable private services. The initiative aims to provide a dependable alternative to private operators who have been frequently "cutting trips," leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV during a public phone-in session. The move specifically targets routes where private bus service has become erratic, ensuring that citizens no longer have to rely on a fluctuating private sector for their daily commute.

Restoring the Govt Presence

The transport crisis was brought to the forefront by Ramayya, a resident of Bajal, who highlighted a growing trend of private buses skipping morning and night trips. With the previous KSRTC (govt) services discontinued, residents have been left without a fallback option.

To fix this, the DC confirmed that the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme will bring 100 government-owned electric buses to the city:

• Phased Deployment: The first 50 of the new 100 government buses are scheduled to arrive by March 2026.

• State Infrastructure: Two new government depots, including one at Mudipu, are being prepared for operations.

• Recruitment: The state has already begun training a new batch of government bus drivers to ensure the fleet is operational the moment it arrives.
