Kateel promises all support to Mangaluru bishop, says Christians are known for harmony

Mangaluru, Aug 27: The chappara muhoorta programme in ahead of preparation of new bishop's Episcopal Ordination was held on 27 August at Rosario Cathedral grounds in Mangaluru. Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP from Dakshina Kannada did the chappara Mahoorta along with other guests.

The MP spoke about the role of Christians in social harmony and appreciated the role of bishop of Mangaluru in building a healthy society. He said that when the centre announced swach bharath programme, it is the bishop of Mangaluru who first carried out the same. When there was breach of peace in Mangaluru in September 2008 it was the Bishop who took imitative to settle the matter and called the meeting and sorted out all the differences, he said.

He extended the support of central government as well all local MLAs of his party for the programme and to the new bishop.

Speaking at the occasion J R Lobo, former MLA stated that Mangaluru is known for peace and harmony, and all of us can work together to build harmonious society.

Ivan D Souza, MLC recalled his memories and said Christians of Mangaluru diocese live with harmony in the society. He requested the MP to extend his full support for the programme.

In his presidential address, the Bishop appreciated the good will of Kateel. Usually the close relatives will be invited for chappara Mahoorta that's why the close guests are called, he said. 

The coordinator M P Noronha in his introduction specified the importance and relevance of the historical event. “Today world is considered as a global village and in Christians are in majority but in India Christians is minority. The Episcopal ordination is being watched by people worldwide. BJP is ruling in central government and its local MP has come to this programme to extend his and Central governments’ whole hearted support and this step is historical event of our country to promote the harmony and good will.

Most Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D Souza, Apostolic administrator of the diocese, Latheef, Corporaor, Fr J B Crasta the chief coordinator, Fr Onil D Souza, the convenor logistic committee, Fr Vincent Monthiero, Fr Richard D Souza, Fr Vijay Victor Lobo, PRO of Diocese of Mnagluru, Luvi Pinto, Marcel Monthiero and Susheel Noronha were present.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
