KCCI delegation discusses issues of Mangaluru Airport with Civil Aviation Minister

Manglauru, Dec 10: A delegation of Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mangaluru, today attended an interactive meeting with Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Commerce and Industry, organised by North Chamber of Commerce at Bekal.

The delegation comprised of P B Abdul Hameed, President, KCCI, Isaac Vas, Vice-President, Prashant C G, Honorary Secretary, and Praveen Kumar Bangera, Director. They discussed with the minister the various issues of PPP and other issues of Mangalore International Airport, misuse of SAFTA provisions by Sri Lanka and issues of 1.5 Market Fee / Cess on agricultural produces.

Mr Abdul Hameed enlightened the Minister that pepper from Vietnam is being routed through Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan authorities are issuing Certificate of Country of Origin to this product as their Country which has duty benefits under SAFTA as Sri Lanka is a SAARC country. This duty exemption is affecting Indian Farmers who are not getting the right price for their agricultural produces.

The State Government through APMC is leving 1.5% of Market Fee / Cess on agricultural produces. Our neighboring States are not leving Market Fee / Cess on agricultural produces. This is a burden on our Farm produces.

The KCCI president also appealed to the Minister to direct the concerned Authority / Department to enlighten KCCI regarding progress of KCCI proposals for infrastructural development like Pals (Precision Approach Lighting System) and extension of Runway towards the North of Old Airport etc.

The Minister gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured it of attending to the issues raised by them and do the needful, stated a release issued by the KCCI.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
