Shivamogga, Feb 12: Ayanur Manjunath, former member of the Rajya Sabha, has expressed his opposition in a veiled manner to Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa contesting the forthcoming Assembly election as a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Shivamogga constituency.

Mr. Eshwarappa had won the Assembly election four times as a BJP candidate from Shivamogga constituency from 1989. In the previous election, he lost to K.B. Prasanna Kumar of the Congress. Following this, the BJP had nominated him to Legislative Council.

Speaking to presspersons on Saturday, Mr. Manjunath said that as Mr. Eshwarappa’s tenure as MLC would end in 2019, the party should not field him in the forthcoming Assembly election from Shivamogga constituency. The party leadership should provide the opportunity to another candidate.

He added that Mr. Eshwarappa should venture in to national politics by contesting the Parliament election of 2019 from Shivamogga Lok Sabha consituency. Replying to a query, he said he was an aspirant for the BJP ticket for the coming Assembly polls from Shivamogga constituency.
