New Delhi, Jun 4: Minister for health and family welfare U T Khader urged union railway minister DV Sadananda Gowda to set up separate railway division for Mangalore at the earliest.
Accompanied by minister for power D K Shivakumar, Mr Khader called on Gowda at New Delhi on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum.
In addition, Khader sought an education railway corridor between Mangalore-Manipal and Mangalore-Konaje.
Khader among other things, Khader said since Mangalore-Manipal and Mangalore-Konaje form the education hub in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, it will be prudent to have a dedicated railway corridor connecting these towns to help the students studying there. Khader also wanted Gowda to pay due attention to development of Someshwar railway station in his constituency and a foot over bridge at Thokkottu for convenience of railway passengers and the locals.
Gowda who responded positively to these demand, assured Khader that since he is now focussed on preparation of his maiden railway budget, he would respond to them post-budget. Gowda incidentally during his maiden visit to the city after taking charge as the railway minister had hinted that the demand for a railway division at Mangalore will be looked into positively and that he too had taken part in agitations seeking the same for the city.
