Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, the Vedike’s state general secretary K L Ashok said that the conference will highlight the good administration, pro-women thoughts, farsightedness, encouragement to artists and religious tolerance of Tipu Sultan. He was far better than the politicians of these days who divide people on the basis of commune. His contributions to the state should not be seen through the communal perspective.

The inaugural function of the Samavesha Jatha will be held in?Srirangapattana on May 4. Veteran freedom fighter H S Doreswamy will pay honour to Tipu Sultan at his place of attaining martyrdom in Srirangapattana. On this day in 1799, Tipu died on the battleground while fighting with British, Ashok said.

A bike rally will be flagged off from Ambedkar statue in front of Town Hall and will be taken out on the main roads of Mysuru. The convention will be held at Dasara exhibition ground in Mysuru at 12 noon.

A 20-day campaign is being organised by progressive organisations to clear the misconceptions on Tipu Sultan. Three seminars have already been held in this regard. Discussions with the backward classes and women associations are being held. There are plans to bring out booklets, publish lavani songs and to stage plays on Tipu Sultan, he added.

The Vedike’s district committee president Suresh Bhat Bakrebail, Muslim Lekhakara Sangha president Umar U H and SIO district committee president Talha Ismail were present.
