Udupi, Jan 24: The Udupi district unit of Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike (KKSV) staged a protest against the lack of political will shown by the government to create a stable environment for minorities to reside peacefully in Gangolli in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district.

Demanding the government to immediately intervene and take all measures to ensure that the Muslim residents are able to live peacefully in Gangolli, members of KKSV and victims affected by the tense situation staged a protest in front of the office of Superintendent of Police here on Thursday evening.

The protestors demanded protection against the continuous rioting and brutal attacks on Muslims by groups owing allegiance to the Sangh Parivar.

Addressing the protestors, KKSV district president G Rajashekhar condemned the passivity, silence and inaction shown by all political parties claiming to be secular including the Congress-led government with regard to communal violence in various parts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.

Questioning the lack of political will shown by district in-charge minister and local MLAs in taking action against Sangh Parivar activists and culprits indulging in communal violence, he said that the police had not taken any action against the culprits involved in communal clashes that occurred in Gangolli last November.

Although all police stations are open 24 hours in a day, most of them in the district remain closed for Muslims. Even the doors of law and justice are closed for them, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, K Paniraj said that today Muslims in Gangolli are unable to live peacefully in their own birthplace. They have been reduced to living in depression camps or jails in peace, he grieved.

Describing the bitter events that took place in Gangolli, women who were affected in the incidents complained that the police who were supposed to protect them, had barged into their homes and assaulted members of their families including women and children. Police are involved with the Sangh Parivar miscreants. Now they have begun breaking into our homes and taking away our husbands and sons, they alleged, adding that the police had taken away their family members who were in their houses during the incident.

A memorandum was submitted in this regard to the district SP to be forwarded to the state Home Minister.

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.
