Bengaluru, Jun 30: Former minister and Billava stalwart Kota Srinivas Poojary is all set to be the leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council. The post became vacant following K S Eshwarappa’s election to the Assembly.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the BJP’s core committee here on Friday. BJP general secretary Aravind Limbavali made this announcement after state BJP core committee meeting chaired by party sate president B S Yeddyurappa.
The elevation of the three time MLC from undivided Dakshina Kannada district will also help BJP to strengthen its hold on Other Backward Communities.
Speaking to reporters, Limbavali also said that MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath would replace former MLC Ganesh Karnik as the chief whip in the Council. Poojary, a two-time MLC, had served as the Muzrai minister in the previous BJP government. He belongs to the the backward Billava community. He will be replacing.
K S Eshwarappa as the leader of the Opposition in the Upper House. Eshwarappa, also a backward classes leader belonging to the Kuruba community, was recently elected an MLA from Shimoga City seat.
Party MLCs Arun Shahpur, Raghunath Rao Malkapure and Ayanur Manjunath too had lobbied for the post. The party, however chose to go with Poojary.
