Udupi, Jul 28: Police has rescued a small girl who was allegedly forced into child labour in a house at Neralkatte village near Kundapur in Udupi district.
B.K. Narayan, chairman of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), said that the girl was being brought up by her mother in Nortat Hanagal in Haveri district.
She had left the girl with her grandfather at Neralkatte a few days ago.
On complaints from neighbours that she had been detained in another house in the village, she was rescued by the police and produced before the CWC, which has directed that she be placed in the children's home.
“She is yet to open up fully. She has a desire to go to school. We will decide on the future course of action once her mother comes back from North Karnataka,” Mr. Narayan said, adding that the girl is healthy.
