The house of Narayan Salian, who earned his living as a coolie, was completely damaged in a land slide at around 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday. Fortunately, Narayan's wife and son, who were in the house at the time of the incident, managed to run out of harm's way.
Located at the bottom of a small hillock near Vidya Jyothi School in Jyothinagar in Kunjathbail, Narayan's house was in the final stages of completion. Narayan and his family were already settled in the house.
When the land slide occurred, compound wall of one of the residents named Shekhar, situated on the same slope above Narayan's house, slumped away and fell on top of Narayan's house, causing most of the damage, according to sources.
Speaking to Coastaldigest.com, corporator of Kunjathbail Mohammed said that officials from the revenue department visited the spot along with the village accountant and executive engineer of MCC.
He said that information about the damage caused to both the houses had been relayed to Mangalore North MLA Moideen Bava and urban development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, both of whom made assurances of providing relief or alternative arrangement to the affected families.
