Late Bishop Jathanna's birth day to mark KACES Day

Mangalore, Jul 5: Karnataka Christian Educational Society (KACES), Mangalore will celebrate KACES Day on the occasion of the birthday of Late Bishop Dr C D Jathanna at Bishop Jathanna Auditorium at Balmatta here on Monday, said KACES Public Relations Officer Sandeep Theophil.

Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, he said that the contributions of Dr Jathanna and past secretaries Dr C L Furtdao and Dr J S Sadananda would be remembered on the occasion.

Assistant secretary of Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), Mangalore D Swaroop Kumar, eminent social activist from Haveri Dr Madhuri Devadhar and member of CSI Shanthi Church, Madikeri Sarojini Kunder will be the chief guests on the occasion. Secretary of KACES Dr Honey Cabral will preside over the occasion.

Three students Dr Prema Sarojini, Dr Balakrishna Bharadhwaj and Dr Nobert D'Souza, who were conferred PhD for their research undertaken at the Karnataka Theological Research Institute will be felicitated on the occasion. In addition, nine M Phil students will receive their M Phil degree certificates from the Kannada Hampi University, he said.

Convenors of KACES Day celebration committee Dr F Anilkumar and Steaven Maben were present.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
