
Mangalore, Oct 19: At least eight persons including seven Madrasa students wounded when lightning struck a religious centre in a village Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.
The lightning strike occurred when the religious classes were going on Jamalullail Madrasa located adjacent to Al-Badria Juma Masjid at Kanthadka near Vittla village at around 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Seven students and a teacher were immediately rushed to hospital in Vittla after the incident. It is learnt that a student lost his hearing in both the ears.
The eight students who were given treatment after the incident are identified as Sinan, Fawad, Ashika, Sameena, Waseeka, Ramseena and Saadia. The injued Madrasa teacher is Abdul Razzak Naeemi.
The multiple lightning strikes also caused huge loss of assts for the Masjid. More than a dozen fans and other things were destroyed, sources said.
