Male nurse sexually assaults US student in Mysuru hospital

Mysuru, Nov 26: A male nurse of a private hospital in Mysuru has been arrested by the city after an American student accused him of sexually assaulting her.

The victim, a university student, visited Columbia Asia Hospital on November 6 for a medical check-up, after she took ill.

The male nurse, Sumeet (24), who was on duty, was accused of sexually assaulting her under the pretext of examining her. The victim, had written down her complaint in the feedback form at the private hospital.

City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda said the victim, who was on a study tour in India, visited the hospital, accompanied by her friends. “She had complained to the hospital authorities and also informed the U.S. Consulate in Chennai about the incident,” Mr. Dayananda said.

The victim, who left Mysuru soon after the reported incident, to visit other places as part of her study tour, returned to the city and formally lodged a complaint with N.R. Mohalla police station on Tuesday.

The accused, Sumeet, a native of K.M. Doddi in Mandya district, was arrested around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, a police official said. He has been arrested under Section 376, the police said.

Meanwhile, the hospital has dismissed the employee based on an inquiry by its committee.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.
