Male prostitute who killed man for not paying Rs 100 after sodomy gets lifer

Mangaluru, Jan 10: A 26-year-old youth who had murdered man two years ago for failing to pay Rs 100 after satisfying his sexual desires, has been held guilty of the offence and sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment by the First Additional District and Sessions court judge BK Nayak here on Friday.

The accused has also been awarded eight years rigorous imprisonment which will run concurrently along with life term and fine of Rs 15,000 for various offences like unnatural sex, murder, robbery and destruction of evidence.

The accused is Rajesh alias Rathish alias Raja, 26 of Kunjathbail had murdered Sundar Poojary of Ullal-Someshwar on January 20, 2012.

According to charge sheet filed by the police accused Rajesh had agreed for the gratification act on Poojary's assurance that he would pay him Rs 100. But when Poojary refused to pay, Rajesh in a fit of rage thrashed the victim and strangled him with a vest at Dhobi Ghat near Old Kent Road.

The body was found on January 28 in an abandoned well. Rajesh was arrested on February 5, 2012. There were 26 witnesses in this case. The police also recovered a mobile phone, a ladies watch stolen after the act from the accused. One of the eyewitness Railway contract labour Papachan had deposed that he had seen both walking across the railway tracks on that day and he had also seen Rajesh returning alone after some time.

Public Prosecutor Pushparaj K Adyanthaya had argued the case for the state.

Melkar, Dec 17: The 17th Annual Day and Graduation Ceremony of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, themed “Fusion-2K25,” was celebrated with dignity and enthusiasm, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic journey.
