Udupi, May 5: The Malpe Beach in Udupi district is all set to host a two-day water sports festival (Jalotsav) on May 7 and 8.

The games include surfing, kayaking, stand-up paddle, speed boat, banana ride, St Mary's boat, parasailing, amusement park and rock climbing, said Deputy Commissioner Dr Vishal R.
He said that 14 works of Rs 3.58-crore worth are taken up at Malpe, adding that the foundation-laying ceremony for nine works costing Rs 1.27 crore will be held on May 7.
Dr Vishal assured that the water crisis would be tackled meticulously as there is no dearth of funds for supply of water.
“As of now, tanker water is supplied to 29 villages. Funds of Rs two crore are earmarked for the action plan on water bodies in urban areas. There are water bodies with sufficient water,” he said and reminded, “Water would be ensured through judicious rationing. The rains are expected by May end.”
