Kasaragod, Jul 12: A court here on Wednesday awarded 10-year rigorous imprisonment to a 37-year-old man for sexually abusing a five-year-old girl in 2014.
District Additional Sessions Court (I) awarded the punishment to Abdul Gafoor, resident of Cheruvathur town, besides slapping a fine of Rs. 50,000 on him. The amount will be paid to the girl.
The case filed before the Chandera police station held Abdul Gafoor guilty of committing the crime under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. The complaint said that the girl was lured to board Gafoor’s auto-rickshaw and was sexually abused near the Cheruvathur railway overbridge.
