Man gets 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping 15-year-old girl

Mangaluru, Sept 25: A local court has sentenced a youth to 10 years rigorous imprisonment on finding him guilty of rape of a 15-year-old girl. The convict is Krishna P R (23), a resident of Sullia in Dakshina Kannada district.

Second Additional District and Sessions Judge B.R. Pallavi pronounced the judgement on Monday. He also imposed fine of Rs 5,000 on him for an offence under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.

Krishna was also sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 5,000 for an offence under Section 376 of the IPC. Both the sentences will run concurrently, the judge noted.

The judge further said that of the total fine of Rs. 10,000, Krishna has to pay Rs. 7,500 as compensation to the girl. The remaining fine amount will be forfeited to the State, the judge said.

Three year old case

According to the charge-sheet filed by Sullia Police Inspector Satish, Krishna raped the girl, whom he knew, on September 8, 2015. The girl’s parents came to know of the incident when she was four months pregnant.

They took the girl to a doctor for abortion and then filed a complaint against Krishna. The police arrested Krishna and filed the charge-sheet for offences under Section 376 of Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Special Public Prosecutor Venkataramana Swamy examined 17 witnesses, including an expert from Forensic Science Laboratory, Bengaluru, who certified that the girl was carrying the child of Krishna.
