Mangaluru, Feb 20: The sixth additional district and sessions court on Friday sentenced a truck operator to seven-year imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 19-year-old girl and promising to marry her.
The police said the mother of the 19-year-old girl had sought four loads of stones from Harish to build the bathroom of their house.
As he had delivered only three loads of stones, the girl called Harish and asked him to deliver the remaining material.
Having got her mobile phone number, Harish started calling the girl since June 2012. He followed her and proposed marriage.
The girl waited for Harish to marry her till April 2013 and reminded him of the promise the next month. He then demanded Rs 1 lakh and 80 grams of gold from her.
She cited her poor financial condition and then threatened to file a police complaint.
Later, Harish threatened to mow her down with his vehicle. The owner of the firm the girl worked for and members of a human rights organization tried to get the two married but in vain.
The girl ultimately filed a complaint in June 2013. 11 witnesses examined
