Bengaluru, Dec 18: A 25-year-old advocate practising in a lower court here was brutally murdered by an unidentified assailant in Mahalakshmi Layout, off West of Chord Road, North Bengaluru on Saturday evening.

According to eyewitnesses, Jyothi got down from a BMTC bus around 7pm and was walking towards her office near Anjaneya Swami Temple, a stone's throw away from the Mahalakshmi Layout Metro station.
"She had crossed the road when a youth, in his late twenties, attacked her. She made a futile attempt to push him aside. Suddenly, the youth pulled out a knife and slit her throat," eyewitnesses told police.
The youth escaped and Jyothi fell unconscious, with blood flowing out from her throat. "A patrolling Hoysala vehicle arrived on the spot and shifted Jyothi to MS Ramaiah Hospital. She died there a little later," police said.
Police are collecting CCTV footage in and around the spot."Gold ornaments and valuables, including cash, and her mobile, are intact. We suspect personal rivalry is the motive," a senior police officer said.
Past incident: On July 7, 2010,J S Naveena, 25, practising in the Karnataka High Court was stabbed to death near the court premises.
