Manager's presence of mind foils robbery bid; 5 armed robbers run away

Mangaluru, Dec 5: The presence of mind of a manager on thwarted a major robbery bid at a finance firm in the city. However, the five member gang of robbers managed to escape.

Muthoottu Mini Finance at Kulai here was targeted by the robbers armed with pistol on Saturday.

It is learnt that the gang came in a Maruti Omni and parked the vehicle on the other side of the highway. Initially, three robbers from the car entered the finance firm and threatened the staff with pistol. Within a few seconds two more robbers with pistols in hand joined them.

However, an alert manager immediately activated the emergency siren, which left the robbers in shock.

The robbers, who knew that it would take at least a couple of minutes to rob the cash and valuables, decided to run away before anyone could catch them.
In hurry, the footwear of one of the robbers was left behind on the premises of the firm.

Soon fingers print experts were pressed into action and dog squad also was called in.

A case has been registered at Suratkal police station and investigations are on. Police have collected the CCTV footage from the firm and nearby buildings.

It is said that two among the five robbers had visited the same finance firm on Friday pretending to be customers and spent some time there.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
