
Mangalore, Apr 3: Major preparations are underway to ensure elaborate security arrangements for the public rally of Congress top leader Rahul Gandhi before his arrival in the city on Friday.
Rahul Gandhi, having Z-Plus security cover, is scheduled to arrive for the rally at Nehru Maidan at 4 p.m. on Friday from Kasargod in Kerala.
The venue will be equipped with CCTV cameras, metal detectors, riot-control vehicles, bomb disposal squads and other necessary security measures. In view of the leader 's security, a radius of two kilometres of the venue will be under strict police surveillance during the rally. Police have barred parking for vehicles, in the half-km radius of the venue from nearly 24 hours prior to his arrival till the end of the rally.
Briefing mediapersons at a press conference here on Thursday, Mangalore City Police Commissioner said that necessary measures for maintaining law and order, crowd and traffic management have been taken.
City police have divided the city into three sectors and placed restriction on movement of vehicles, especially those arriving for the rally. All vehicles including private vehicles and buses, will be banned entry from Ambedkar Circle, Lalbagh, Koti Chennayya Circle into the city from 12 p.m. on Friday.
Sector I: Those vehicles arriving from Kundapur-Udupi-Surathkal should proceed from Kottara Chowki to K S Rao Road via Ballal Bagh junction. After alighting passengers at Sharavu Temple road, they should proceed towards Ullal Nursing Home via Car Street and park their vehicles in the ground nearby.
Sector II: Vehicles coming from Moodbidri-Karkala should proceed towards Milagres Church junction via Nanthoor Circle-Bendoorwell route. After alighting passengers in front of Milagres junction, they should move further towards Koti Chennayya circle via Noor Masjid-Attavar route and park vehicles in Vaman Nayak maidan.
Sector III: Vehicles arriving from Belthangady-Bantwal-Kasaragod should proceed towards Pandeshwar via Pumpweel-Kankanady-Valencia-Mangaldevi-Pandeshwar route. After alighting passengers near Corporation Bank in Pandeshwar, the vehicles should move towards Rosario grounds and park vehicles there.
KSRTC buses coming to KSRTC bus stand at Bejai from Pumpwell should take the Nanthoor-KPT-Kuntikan-Baliga Stores route and have leave by the same route.
Parking along the route of Rahul Gandhi 's convoy from Bajpe airport to Nehru Maidan has been banned from 12 p.m. on Friday.
From 9 a.m. on Friday until the departure of the VIP on Saturday, no vehicles will be allowed entry inside the premises of Circuit House in Kadri.
