Mangalore, Mar 25: Former minister Krishna J Palemar accused the Congress of failing to keep up to its promises such as removal of self-assessment tax and provision of single site approval in Dakshina Kannada within ten months of coming to power in the state.
Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, he said that local Congress leaders had given false assurances of eliminating self-assessment tax in the district in their manifesto before coming to power. But, they have increased it recently and claimed that the decision was made by Mangalore City Corporation, he claimed, adding that the consent for self-assessment tax was granted with the approval of district-in-charge minister and two local MLAs.
He said that the development achieved by Congress in the district was almost zero. “They (Congress) came to power by spreading false propaganda, and have thus cheated the people. They have no right to ask for votes again,” he said, adding that voters should become aware of the tactics of the Congress.
Mr Palemar also alleged that the Mangalore North MLA Moidin Bava was involved in swindling public money by illegally handing contracts related to tarring of roads to his relatives.
Former MLA Yogish Bhat, Umanath Kotian and Premananda Shetty were present.
