Mangalore, Mar 24: It was indeed a meaningful commemoration of Martyrs ' Day as CREST (Creating Resource to Empower Society Today), the youth wing of Centre for Integrated Learning in association with Rotary Club of Mangalore North and www.youthania.com, a youth portal organized Insignia 2014, student leadership workshop at Rotary Bal Bhavan here on Sunday.
Intense sessions, discussions, interactions, face to face with political leaders and loads of information including a practical session on RTI among other activities marked the day long deliberations. The event attracted students from over 10 colleges from the city and Udupi district.
The workshop was inaugurated in a novel manner as Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation unveiled the map of India which was in shackles which was later removed signifying that the youth had the power to transform India to break free from the shackles that are hindering the progress of the largest democracy in the world.
The keynote address was delivered by Abhishek Purohit, a youth icon and founder of GROW (Giving Rise to Our World), an NGO in Jodhpur, Rajastan.
The highlight of the day 's schedule was an informative session on `RTI as a tool for Change ' conducted by advocate Vivekananda Paniyala followed by an engrossing panel discussion with representatives of political parties as students utilized the opportunity to fire barrage of questions to the leaders. The discussion moderated by Prof. P L Dharma, Chairman of Department of Political Science, Mangalore University, was participated by Aam Aadmi Party Lok Sabha election candidate M R Vasudeva, MLC Capt. Ganesh Karnik representing BJP, Srikanth Rai, Youth President of Janata Dal (S), Ivan D 'Souza representing Congress and Social activist M G Hegde.
