Mangaluru, Aug 30: Hundreds of students in Mangalore University today boycotted their classes and staged a protest demanding the arrest of a motorbike-borne miscreant who allegedly misbehaved with girls on the campus yesterday.
The students, who laid siege to the administrative block of the University, alleged that the management neither considered the incident seriously nor took any necessary step even a day after the students brought the issue to its notice.
It is learnt that an unidentified man who came on a motorbike misbehaved with a group of female students who were walking nearly the library on Wednesday evening (August 29).
Immediately, the students complained to the management. However, as the news began to spread the student organisations decided to stage a protest to exert pressure on the management, sources said.
Protesters demanded that the Registrar should personally meet them and take all necessary actions to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
Had the management checked the footage of CCTVs installed near the library soon after receiving the complaint, the culprit would have already been identified by this time, the agitating students said.
The students threatened that they would continue the protest if the management failed to fulfil their demands.
