Mangaluru: 3 on drug peddling charge; cocaine, mobiles, car worth Rs 10 lakh seized

Mangaluru, Oct 14: By arresting three youths, the police have busted an alleged drug peddling racket in Mangaluru today.

The arrested have been identified as Fasim Noushid (25), Mohammed Zaid (26), residents of Falnir in the city, and Afzal Hussain (28), from Kunjathur in Kasaragod district of Kerala.

City crime branch (CCB) and the cops from the Cyber Crime, Economic Offence and Narcotics (CEN) Station in a joint drive arrested three persons while they were attempting to sell cocaine in the city.

The cops have also seized 30 grams of cocaine valued at Rs 2.4 lakh, mobile phones and a Maruti Swift car. The total value of seizure is estimated at Rs 10 lakh.

City police commissioner PS Harsha said a drive was conducted based on a tip off. "We received a tip off that a gang has been making attempts to sell cocaine to earn money illegally. Following this, a team of officers from the CCB and CEN laid a trap and succeeded in nabbing three,” he said.

A case has been registered at the CEN. More accused are involved in the racket, the commissioner said adding that the investigation is on to trace all other accused behind it.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.
