Mangaluru, Sep 1: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad staged a protest near Karnatka Polytechnic Junction here on Tuesday to urge the government to provide basic infrastructure at government colleges in the State.
In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, the parishad demanded that the government fill up teachers’ posts in government colleges and construct more hostels for students. It should release scholarships due to students from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
The activists said that many colleges lacked toilet, library, rooms for teachers and non-teaching staff, laboratory, and sports materials. If the government did not provide them it would be difficult to provide quality education to students.
The memorandum said that many government hostels needed good maintenance to maintain health of students.
Many poor students have not received their scholarships for the past two years. The government should pay attention to it urgently.
