Speaking at a review meeting of developmental works held in his office, Mr Ibrahim said that the exit road was being constructed by Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd. In the 1,125-metre long road, 740 metres will be concretised while the rest of the road will be tarred. Since the airport is located on a hill, a retaining wall will be constructed on one side of the exit road. The concerned departments have been instructed to shift the existing electricity poles on the new road to an adjacent area along with the pipeline supplying drinking water, he said.

He said that apart from the road leading towards the airport and the exit road, an alternative road was being built at a cost of Rs 1.90 crore during emergencies. The construction of this road leading towards the airport from Maravoor gram panchayat, is under the tender process, he informed.

In the meeting, Mangaluru Assistant Commissioner D R Ashok informed that a total of 422 acres land had been acquired for the construction of Mangaluru International Airport in Malavoor, Adyapady, Kolambe and Kenjar villages. Subsequently, around 153 cases had been registered in the court of law for higher compensation for the land acquisition. Out of the 153 cases, the court had issued an order allowing higher compensation in a total of 79 cases, he informed, adding that the law department had sent a notification to file for appeal against few cases out of the above.

Responding to this, Mr Ibrahim said that it was not suitable to appeal in the higher court only in few cases. Either all the cases have to be appealed against in the higher court, or none of them. A decision will be taken after receiving directions from the government, he said, informing that a proposal would be sent to the government in this regard.

In the meeting, KRDCL assistant chief executive engineer Abdul Suban, MIA Director Radhakrishna, Puttur assistant commissioner Basavaraju and others were present.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.
