Mangaluru: Beach Utsav to provide the best of local culture and cuisine

Mangalore, Dec 19: CEO of Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project (PBTDP) and chairman of Karavali Utsav Beach Festival Committee Yathish Baikampady said that a beach festival would be organised as part of Karavali Utsav 2014-15, for a period of nine days starting from December 24.

Briefing mediapersons at a press conference here on Friday, he said that events would be held at the Panambur beach all through the nine days including competitions such as boating, sand sculpture, beach volleyball for men and women, skating for children and kite-flying display by'Team Mangalore'.

December 24: The beach festival, as part of Karavali Utsav 2014-15, will be inaugurated on Wednesday at 4.30 p.m. At the same time, the food festival will also be inaugurated, following which there will be kite-flying display of attractive kites by internationally-renowned'Team Mangalore'.

On the same day, there will be a dance competition for teams selected in preliminary rounds, followed by a cultural programme by a renowned team from Gujarat.

December 25: On Thursday, there will be cultural performance by a team of artistes from north Karnataka and a singing competition for selected teams. The same day, there will be a beach cricket tournament for local cricket teams.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, there will be special cultural performances by internationally-renowned'Kalamandalam' team from Kerala Samajam, Mangaluru.

On Saturday, there will be preliminary round of beach volleyball competition for men and women. On Sunday, there will be boating competition, sand sculpture competition, skating competition for school children and final round of beach volleyball competition for men and women, he said.

On Monday and Tuesday, there will be cultural performances by artistes from north Karnataka and other cultural groups.

On December 31, there will be a special musical performance by a Mangaluru-based team led by Lavita Lobo, along with New Year celebrations for families, said Mr Baikampady.

On January 1, there will be a valedictory programme of Karavali Utsav 2014-15, followed by performance by movie singer Ramdas, Nithin Acharya and other singers from Mangaluru.

Melkar, Dec 17: The 17th Annual Day and Graduation Ceremony of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, themed “Fusion-2K25,” was celebrated with dignity and enthusiasm, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic journey. The programme reflected the college’s steadfast commitment to academic excellence, character building, and the holistic development of students.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Asif Mohammed, whose presence greatly enriched the occasion. The celebration was further graced by the chief guests Mr. P. B. Ahmed Mudassir and Mr. Nissar Fakeer Mohammed, along with the distinguished guests of honour Mr. B. A. Nazeer and Mr. Ibrahim Gadiyar. In their inspiring addresses, the guests encouraged the graduating students and appreciated the dedicated efforts of the management, faculty, and students.

The annual report was presented by the Principal, Mr. Abdul Majeed S, highlighting the institution’s academic progress, notable achievements, and extracurricular accomplishments during the academic year.

The presidential address was delivered by the esteemed Chairman of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, Dr. Haji S. M. Rasheed, who emphasized the vital role of education in empowering women and shaping responsible citizens. He also stressed the importance of discipline, dedication, and perseverance in achieving success.

Cultural programmes and academic recognitions formed an integral part of the celebration, showcasing the talents and achievements of the students. The graduation ceremony was a proud moment for the outgoing students as they were formally conferred degrees and wished success in their future endeavours.

Ms. Mashmooma Fathima served as the Master of Ceremonies. The welcome address was delivered by Ms. Fathima Nida, and the programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Ayisha Suhana.

The event successfully achieved its objectives and was highly appreciated by the guests and attendees.
