Mangaluru, Sep 28: The annual feast of Padre Pio was celebrated at St Anne's Friary here on Sunday September 27 with great joy, happiness and devotion. The Joy Star brass band from Bondel doubled the spirit of the celebration. The Bishop of Ballari was welcomed by the Friars and People.

Fr.Sunil D’souza Capuchin Padre Pio was happy to see the huge gathering and their love for the Padre Pio. Bishop of Ballari diocese Dr Henry D'Souza celebrated the festal mass.

"Let the life of St Pio be a beacon of light for us. Let his knowledge and blessed life inspire us. He led a life of sacrifice and service and we should inculcate these qualities in our daily lives," said Bishop Henry.

"Without sacrifice there is no love. It is seen in our daily life. There are three type of good people. First they do good for themselves only, second they do good for themselves and only family members and third are the people who forget about themselves and doing good to others only. Such is our saint Padre Pio. He had great love for the Eucharist and guided the people," bishop Henry added.

Thereafter, Bishop and MLA J R Lobo were honored in a public programme. The Superior of the Friary Fr Cyprian D’souza thanked Bishop for his kind presence and love for the Capuchins. He also thanked MLA for all the good work he has done and in particular helping them to get the grant of Rs 50 lakhs from government in renovation of the Chapel. J R Lobo thanked the gathering for honouring him.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
