Mangaluru, Feb 23: The newly-concretised stretch of road from Ambedkar Circle to Bunts Hostel Circle was inaugurated by Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai on Monday and declared it open for public use.
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration, he said that being one of the main roads in the city, the concretisation was completed well in advance in order to reduce the inconvenience caused to daily commuters. Works to construct a footpath, underground drain and street lamps will be shortly implemented along this road. In the coming days, the concretisation of other roads will also be undertaken, he said.
Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo said that the concretisation of the road had been undertaken with funds from the special Rs 100 crore grant released in the second stage. The road work was completed within four months at a total cost of Rs 1.96 crore. Shortly, the concretisation of Kadri and Car Street main roads will also be taken up as part of making Mangaluru into a model city, he said.
Mangaluru Mayor Mahabala Marla said that works on the 424-metre long road, which had begun in November last year, had been completed within four months, although a period of six months had been allotted for its concretisation.
Deputy Mayor Kavita, Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Hepsiba Rani Korlapati and other corporators were present during the inauguration.
